Year Round Schedule for 2012 – 2013

One the most requested schedules that I am asked for is our year round school schedule.  For those of you who enjoy a calendar to guide you throughout the school year, this might be the one for you!

This schedule is a 6 week “on” with a 2 week “off” dated school year – stretched among the 12 months calendar year.  As you will discover, most textbook curriculum (ABeka, Alpha Omega, Bob Jones, etc) covers concept building for 6 weeks straight before moving onto a new concept. As a parent/teacher, I have learned that it is good to allow the student to digest information before moving onto the next.  It is important to allow the new things being learned to settle in the brain for easy recall when necesssary.  Therefore, a 6 week “on” with a 2 week “off” (break) really helps the textbook homeschool student.

Simply follow the start date listed below to get started.  Remember, different states have different requirements as far as the number of teaching days necessary.  However, this schedule is based on the Colorado 172 day requirement.  I have arranged this schedule to accomidate 2 days off for Thanksgiving and 2 weeks off for Christmas and New Year’s.  Of course, you can tailor-make your schedule to accommodate any other holiday you wish to celebrate.  I included 8 extra days in the 172 school schedule that will allow you, as parent/teacher, to use as floating holidays (MLK Day, President’s Day, Easter, etc).   Field trips should be counted as a regular school day and not used as a floating holiday.
